Interactive Rendering of Specular Surfaces Taking into Account Self Reflection

چکیده
To render specular surfaces, reflections play an important role to enhance the realism. For concave surfaces, the effects of self-reflections that the surface reflects a part of the surface itself are necessary to create realistic images. This paper presents an interactive rendering of rigid specular surfaces taking into account self-reflections. In the preprocess, sample rays incident onto each vertex of the specular surface are traced taking into account the reflection, until they do not intersect the surface. The outgoing reflected directions are stored in look-up tables. In the rendering process, reflections of the environment taking into account the self-reflection are rendered by using the precomputed look-up tables. Our method accelerates the rendering by using a GPU and achieves interactive rendering.

A Rendering Equation for Specular Transfers and Its Integration into Global Illumination
In this paper,we presenta rigorous theoretical formulation of the fundamental problem—indirect illumination from area sources via curved ideal specular surfaces. Intensity and area factors are introduced to clarify this problem and to rectify the radiance from these specular surfaces. They take surface geometry, such as Gaussian curvature, into account. Based on this formulation, an algorithm f...

This thesis presents new mathematical and computational tools for applying perturbation methods to image synthesis. The key idea is to characterize families of closely related optical paths by expanding a given path into a high-dimensional Taylor series. Our methods are based on the closed-form expressions for linear and higher-order approximations of specularly reflected rays of light, which a...

In this paper, we propose novel GPU accelerated algorithms for interactive point-based rendering (PBR) and high-quality shading of transparent point surfaces. By introducing the concept of deferred blending we are able to formulate the smooth point interpolation problem as an image compositing post-processing task. Consequently, our new PBR algorithm does not suffer from an extra visibilityspla...
متن کاملHandling Interactions Between Real And Virtual Worlds
When compositing computer generated images and photographs or video images, interactions between real and virtual worlds must be taken into account in order to have a good visual result. These interactions are of three kinds: occluding object determination, specular inter-reflection and shadow computation. We first determine which real objects need to be geometrically and/or photometrically mod...
